[Actually, I always thought this panty-thing was an urban myth - but some research shows that this is true and that even the vending machine stories are true. The article is on Snopes.com, so I guess this is kind of valid info. Plus, the article is generally interesting with regards to Japanese sex culture. As always when reading articles like this, you should wear your 'scepticals'. It is pretty short and makes a sweeping generalization (I think) about the sex-culture of an entire country. However, it might be a good place to start and might also not be too off track if you've picked up some bits and pieces of info on Japanese sex culture here and there, like the Doll Brothel (NSFW).
