Mark Khaisman spends his free time better than you do!

Now, if I have some free time on my hands and several rolls of adhesive tape lying around I’d go and watch TV. Or read a book. But I’d never start taping it on a glass surface and create some awesome stuff. That’s the major difference between me and Mark Khaisman and that’s why he’s an artist with a long CV and I’m sitting at my desk in a dark backyard of an apartment building. But let’s not brood on this, here’s a snip from his statement:
I work on the light easel, applying translucent brown packing tape on clear Plexiglas panels, the layers built up to create degrees of opacity. My main motivation is my love for classics. The images are archetypes derived from the cultural heritage: art, architecture, movies. I am trying to be faithful to the source, but in the process of interpretation all kinds of things happen. The reason is submerged in the shadows, the purpose is absorbed by the light, the cultural icon has become the personal experience.
The website, InLiquid, carries a bunch of other artist’s pages, so you might want to look around a little.

I think you’re right on target Dave. Mark Khaisman, an experienced and apparently successful midcareer artist, has hit on a medium that captures the public’s interest and is aesthetically pleasing as well. I’d like to view one of his portraits in person. He captures the modernist vision: a non-traditional medium used to produce quality art. I’d take Khaisman over Chuck Close any day.
