Just a quickie (and sign of life!): I finally got around exploring Psychic TV, one of the spawns of Throbbing Gristle after they split up in 1981, and founded by Peter Christopherson and Genesis P-Orridge. PTV’s catalogue is HUGE and I had no idea where to start, so I bought the debut, Forcing the Hand of Change, figuring that’s as good a place as any. I knew some of their more trippy, acid house stuff that they did in the mid-eighties, and, well, wasn’t that impressed. However, FTHOC is pretty awesome. I’m pleasantly surprised. To give you an idea, here’s the song Catalan (from the FTHOC album), which was the soundtrack for a short film by Derek Jarman:
I usually don’t refer to lifehacker.com because of the simple fact that everybody has probably seen in already. However, I really liked this post on handwriting. My handwriting is kinda okay (I started using a keyboard relatively late in my life) but there is always room for improvement.
I have come across this video before quite a while ago and just started thinking about it last week. This got posted before, but it’s such a great story that I don’t mind posting it again. Be sure to check out the artists’ website, The Black Heart Gang.
For some reason I can’t post the video, so I have to point you forward towards the Vimeo page – sorry about that. Once I figure out how to post it here, I will.
It’s not really a secret that I am a big fan of Hunter S. Thompson, especially the earlier stuff, roughly up to Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail ‘72. The later stuff…well, it’s okay, but after that he was…how should I put this…past his prime. However, I really enjoyed reading the three volumes of letters that have been published over the last few years and only a few days ago I finally got around to watch GONZO: The Life and Work of Hunter S. Thompson, which I can highly recommend. It has a ton of original footage, interviews with Ralph Steadman, HST’s ex-wifes, and other fellow travelers. And if you can stand Johnny Depp reading some HST while waving a six-shooter around (I wonder whose idea that was…) – more power to you.
This blog is updated more or less frequently, but not daily, and I post more personal stuff here. There is also an additional incarnation of this blog on Tumblr, called Bearded Dave @ Tumblr, which I'm using to post little notes, pictures, etc. that I come across and think are neat. You can also follow the Grumpy German on Twitter or Friendfeed. Go nuts!
