The Wind and More!

- Yep, that was the first song by Roky Erickson (official website & myspace) I’ve ever heard. It came up on Pandora on…wait a sec…I think a station tagged with Hawkwind. Awesome, awesome stuff and you know what bugs me? After snooping around on the Internets I discovered what a big deal the 13th Floor Elevators where back in the days! How come nobody told me? I mean, seriously, while I admit that I grew up in the middle of the old world, I am shocked. So I got my hands on some of his stuff and it’s fucking amazing, the album “The Evil One” by Roky Erickson and the Aliens,  recorded after a prolonged stay in a mental institution, is an absolute keeper and on heavy rotation since I got my greedy claws on it. Also highly recommended is the documentary You’re Gonna Miss Me.

A Conversation with Alan Moore about the Arts and the Occult

If you are even remotely interested in comics or magic, this interview with Alan Moore will make you very happy.

Posted via web from Bearded Dave

UPDATE: Apologies for the short post. I was so exited yesterday that I came across this that I went ahead and posted it via posterous (a recent favorite of mine), but didn’t have the time to really write something more than what you see above. I have been quite a fan of Alan Moores’s work, even though only semi-consciously. I didn’t really look for his work, but somehow it always found me. Only recently I have started to learn more about him and he is an interesting character. His view on magic rings very true to me and brings back memories from, what, 10 years ago when I was much more immersed in that stuff.

What can I say – it’s good to be back! Oh, and it’s a good interview, very worth reading. Trust me.

Brainfreeze, Bleeding Heart Liberals, and James Nachtwey’s Wish

Hello? Did I miss something? Last time I looked it was summer. Hot. Now, all of a sudden I’m freezing my ass off. Whatever happened to fall? I always thought Global Warming would do just that: warm stuff up! Well anyway…

The Big Picture is an amazing website and its series of the Earth from Above photos, which are stunningly beautiful, the website is worth checking out not only for landscape photography, but also high-quality photojournalism. Take for example the excerpt of a longer series from James Nachtwey, recent winner of the TED Prize last year (see Boing Boing post and Nachtwey’s Wish), on XDR-TB. Now, XCR-TB ranks somewhat high in the lameness-scale, because it is “eXtremely Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis,” meaning that this one is a keeper. Watch the video and get involved.

On other fronts, being a creature of habit, the fact that the Presidential Debate took place yesterday and NOT tomorrow completely passed my radar. I only caught the last few minutes. However, I do have piece of advice – Obama a domestic terrorist? Give me a fucking break. This recent comment by Keith Olbermann that I posted on my tumblr-blog hits the nail on the head. Kind of. You know, I don’t understand what’s wrong with the Democrats. This is first class mud served on a silver platter, so why the hell do you not grab a handful (or ten) and start slinging?! This is not the time to chuckle – take off the gloves and hit back! I mean, really.

Sarah Palin and Paris Hilton. Plus: It rains and I don’t have an umbrella

The last few days have been quite stressful. I’m working towards my deadline, which is, actually, today, and I’m in the final stages of revising and hoping and praying that the print shop will accommodate my wishes for quick service. Passed yesterday and the stuff is on the way to the Old World as we speak! Otherwise, I might go postal on them. Seriously. And to top things off, the squirrels have moved into the attic again and I hear them crawling and clawing through the wall next to me. And it’s raining. And by this I mean RAINING! We are talking planetary amounts of water here, my friends.

Even though I can’t vote, I’m nevertheless extremely freaked out by the Republican party. Right now I’m following every snippet of the Palin-Fiasco with the same glee and wonder as I did the Paris-Hilton-thing last year. (Speaking of Paris Hilton – what has she been up to, recently?) I mean, seriously, this is a joke, right? A practical joke. A bad one? Definitely. Yesterday evening Two days ago I had nothing better to do than watch the new Palin interview on CBS (see here. Okay, okay, to alleviate a horror, I’ll throw a little Wanda Sykes into the mix to make you laugh again). I love the stuff about Alaska’s border with Russia. I just love it.

Oh, and I should also mention that I’m totally, completely, in love with Rososo, an extremely toned down feedreader that, as we speak, becomes my new start-up page. Just sayin’.

“I’m looking for a box.”

I just got a cell phone. And a number. And about one hour after I activated it, it rang. I answered it, and a guy said: “I’m looking for a box.”

Me: “[...] Awesome. [...]

Box dude: “[...] It has to be 2 x 6.”

Me: “[...] Who is this?”

To make a long story short, it turns out my phone number used to belong to a shop that sold boxes. A box shop. So I guess there might be more of these inquiries coming my way in the future. It’s so funny to have a phone again, after more than 4 weeks without one. A cell phone, that is, that belongs to me and not a landline that is shared with other people. People can call me specifically! Well, and the box shop.

I got hooked on the Huffington Post lately and I’d have to say that I quite enjoy reading it in the morning with a cup of steaming coffee in my stringy hand. Plus, I’m having one hell of a good time getting riled up by any news concerning Sarah Palin, like this one about her charging rape victims for the evidence-gathering procedure as a mayor in Alaska. It’s too bad she is a real person, otherwise I’d soothe myself by just pretending she is a TV villain. But things being as they are, this is extremely disturbing and I have real trouble accepting her as a real person who – god-forbid – might run this country.

And here are some completely unrelated news: you now can also comment on this blog’s baby-brother via Disqus. Yay! Isn’t that awesome? Hurray! So go there, look around, and drop me a line if you feel like it.
